I looked at the calendar today and realized the WCOOP is only 11 days away! So I fired up the PokerStars client, looked at the schedule under Events/WCOOP, took my time to map out the next few weeks and decided what tournaments I definitely want to play. With 65 tournaments to choose from, this very fine selection is what I ended up with!
How did I pick these?
First I realized that instead of playing a ton of tournaments half-hearted and be burned out by the end of the series (been there, done that), I only want to focus on a few select tourneys this year. The structures in the WCOOP are so the best online structures you'll find and in turn a lot of the tournaments take a long time to play out. That makes it extremely important that I come in fresh every day that I play. I know that a lot of people try to play almost every event and while a few people may be able to pull that off and still play great after 2 weeks, I most certainly can't. With a smaller schedule I'll definitely be looking forward to every single tournament and just play my heart out.
Secondly, if you look at the games you'll realize that I've mostly chosen pretty uncommon games. There's tons of great No Limit Tournaments in the WCOOP, but to be honest I haven't really played No Limit Holdem for a while and while I'm certain I would still be profitable in a $109-$320 WCOOP tourney, I wouldn't have a large edge. Especially with the great structures, my lack of training in post flop situations would hurt me. Since my short stack game is very good though, I've decided to toss in a Turbo.
To me the special part of WCOOP has always been the possibility to play the rarer games with a very large field. Just looking at the guarantees you can tell these events are going to be great value. It's probably pretty unlikely that a guarantee will not be hit during WCOOP, but if you look at the $215 2-7 for example, it has a guarantee of $50k! That means there'll be at least 250 people playing (possibly more) and the fields will be very beatable. I've also included mainly the ones I feel very comfortable at. I'm pretty certain I'd be a winner in the Stud High or a Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo tourney, but not a huge one. And if I played many more tourneys I also probably wouldn't be quite as refreshed for the next one, so I kept it at the very small side this year. With all that said, I'm certain I'll play one or two more than the ones I listed at the spur of the moment
I really hope that with this small schedule I'm giving myself the very best shot at taking down one of the elusive WCOOP Bracelets. How great would that be?
